youtube travel videos http://www.overlander.tv South Boston has traditionally been the part of Boston where Irish Immigrants settled. It is now going through quite a gentrification process as new condominiums are forcing up prices in what in the past has been a rough part of town. Irish gangsters such as James "Whitey" Bulger, who was on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list, use to call 'Southie' home and Irish influence can still be found in some of the local bars. The best bar I found was Croke Park/Whitey's where everyone is welcome, drinks are cheap, pool is free and the jukebox plays some kicking tunes. https://www.facebook.com/crokeparkpub?ref=br_tf Named for its former owner Whitey McGrail, who was gunned down in the pub in 1985. After visiting many dive bars all round the USA ( and...
The Irish Mob is the oldest organized crime group in the United States, in existence since the early 19th century. Originating in Irish American street gangs of the 19th century—depicted in Herbert Asbury's 1928 book The Gangs of New York—the Irish Mob has appeared in most major U.S. cities, including Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, and Chicago. The Irish Mob also has a strong presence in Ireland; however, unlike in the United States, the group has only been present in Ireland from the 1960s and onwards. Predominantly active in Dublin and Limerick, the group most often works under crime families focusing on the drug-trade. https://www.facebook.com/noskiesfilm?fref=ts A Michael Yebba Film A World With No Skies, is a documentary film about Boston"s, mainly South Boston's, ongoing heroin epidemic.. South Boston is a densely populated neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. One of the oldest, most historic neighborhoods in the United States, South Boston is more commonly known as "Southie." During the 1970's, South Boston received national attention for its opposition to court-mandated school desegregation, which involved busing students to different neighborhood schools. There were a number of protests that turned severely violent, some resulting in deaths. During that time, Southie became known as one of the most racist neighborhoods in the United States, a reputation that to this day, many outsiders at...

Former Boston mayor and anti-busing foe Ray Flynn objects to the one sided nature of how South Boston is portrayed in movies often not showing how concerned most parents were for the education and health of local children.
